Your Guide to Website Speed Tests
I'm not being dramatic when I say speed is vital when it comes to your website. It can be the deciding factor between keeping or losing a visitor. Why? Because a slow website will quickly cause a visitor to click away and look elsewhere for their needs.
If your website loads in a flash, that visitor is far more likely to stay and increases the likelihood that they will send an inquiry or make a purchase.
So, what does a speed test entail?
Here are a few pointers:
Web Hosting: Poor quality web hosting is one of the most common issues that can slow down a website.
Speed Testing Tools: There are various speed testing tools available, and our favorite is GTMetrix or Google Page Speed. Users can create a free account for convenient testing and review historical test data.
Results: The results will vary by website and the report should give you some clear indicators of opportunities for improvement. This screen shot is a good example of the output after a speed test.
Take Action: If the speed test results don't meet the minimum requirements detailed above, then take action. The JHD team can advise the best course of action.
Test Again: After completing any actions and updates, the next step is to perform another test to verify the changes made have improved the website speed.
